Begin with the prayer
The Apostles’ Creed is a compact profession of Christian faith. It is not a poem of vague religious feelings. It names the God Christians trust and the saving work of Jesus.
In the Rosary, the Creed is prayed at the crucifix because every mystery rests on the faith of the Church.

Prayer text
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
How to pray with this guide
- What does this prayer teach? The Apostles’ Creed is a compact map of Christian faith: creation, Christ, the Spirit, the Church, forgiveness, resurrection, and eternal life.
- How can I pray it? Pray it slowly and mark one line you want to understand more deeply.
- What can I try this week? Choose one phrase from the Creed and look for it in Scripture or the Catechism.
Why Catholics pray Apostles’ Creed
It gives beginners a compact map of Christian faith. It keeps belief centred on God the Father, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, the Church, forgiveness, resurrection, and eternal life.
What the Creed covers
The Creed moves from the Father and creation, to Jesus Christ his Son, to the Holy Spirit, the Church, forgiveness, resurrection, and everlasting life. It is a map of Christian belief.
How to use it if you are new
Do not panic if every phrase is not clear yet. Mark the lines you understand, the lines you want to understand, and the lines that raise questions. Faith seeks understanding over time.
Why Catholics keep saying it
Repeated profession protects memory. The Creed helps Christians remember that faith is received, shared, and bigger than private opinion.
Open the Scripture
Let the Scripture reference tune the prayer. Notice one word or scene that changes how you speak to God.
Catechism to consult
The Catechism reference helps show where this prayer sits inside Catholic life, worship, doctrine, and spiritual formation.
Try it this week
Pray the Creed once this week and underline one phrase to learn more about.

A short prayer
Lord, strengthen my faith. Help me understand what I profess and live what I believe. Amen.
